    WHAT A COMEBACK

Down 31 to 14 at the half.  Down by 10 with 7 minutes to go.  19 points in the 4th quarter.  An interception for a touchdown to take the lead.  A highlight reel impossible incerception to end the game.

    IRISH WIN.  GO IRISH!!!!!!

    Soccer's biggest idiot

    That would be Zinedine Zidane.

    What an ass.

    Bravo.

What a way to end your career.

    Update

Apparently people waving Italian flags in Toronto and shouting Italia is much more important according to CTV news than the death of a Canadian soldier.  Soccer wins out over a young man who had the courage to wear the uniform with the Canadian flag on his shoulder.

How thoroughly disgusting on CTV's part.

CTV News now joins my 'fuck you' list.  Congrats.

    Canes should thank the zebras

My Habs lost tonight.  The main reasons - Cam Ward in goal for the Canes who stood on his head and robbed us of at least 3 sure goals.  No doubt at all that he was the first star. The other reason - the fucking useless refs.

I am starting to believe the conspiracy theory that the Bettman and the NHL don't want Canadian teams to win.  The officiating was horrible.

Saku Koivu takes a high stick to the eye and no call.  IN FRONT OF THE NET with the referees there, and no call.  Did you see the replay of him going to the bench?  The dark colour of the blood and where it was coming from?  Right on the eye itself..  Right now I just hope he doesn't loose it.

Of course, later in the game the Habs get caught for high sticking, given a four minute penalty because it drew blood.  By the replay it looked like he bit his lip after to draw the blood.  Didn't miss that one did you boys?  Yep it was a high stick an a penalty deserved to be called.  Just trying to figure out why Koivu's wasn't.

Oh, and what about all the hooking the Canes did?  I thought in the new NHL if you touched a player with your stick when he had the puck it was hooking?

Oh, but let's give Koivu a penalty earlier for interference because he bumped into an opposing player while fighting for postion.  Oh god forbid a hockey player knock down another hockey palyer.  Oh that's right..Bettman came from the pussy sport of basketball and the NBA.  It's fucking hockey let them play, call the dangerous penalties...like gouging an eye with a stick.

And the refs missed at 2 hits from behind...both pretty much like the one Kovalev got penalized ofr last game but...oh yeah that's right..he's Montreal. And the one hit from behind - oh that was in overtime but they let that slide.  What they didn't led slide a few moments later was a bullshit holding penalty that wasn't hooking.  Carolina scored on the ensuing powerplay.  Game over.  Thanks Dan Marouelli.

Montreal lost something in the third period, and I know what it was.  After the second intermission, they knew that their captain had been taken to the hospital with a nasty eye injury.  You could see it on their faces.

And Sheldon Souray - damn it play better defence for cryingoutloud.  You let Brind'Amour blow right past you.

Hopefully Koivu's injury isn't that bad.

So Gay Bettman and Colin Campbell - thank you ever so much for fucking up MY game.  Go away.  Why the hell isn't a HOCKEY person running the league?  Dump Buttman and get a Canadian running things.  Someone who cares about hockey and not just TV ratings.

    What a game!!!!

My Habs took a 2-0 lead in the series against Carolina. Heading back to Montreal after taking the first two games in Carolina.
Looked great in the first period - 3-0 and the canes couldn't do a thing. Second period, well not so hot. Taking dumb penalties and in the second and carolina scored 3 straight.
You see, after the canes scored in the second, I realized something was amiss, not quite right. I was not wearing my Montreal Canadiens t shirt that I wore the first game. During intermission I rushed to my room, grabbed the shirt and threw it on.
Down 2 men to start the third, Motreal is scored on again. Damn maybe I put the shirt on too late.
Then Montreal scored 2. It's now 5-4. Then with minutes left the canes tie it up.
    First overtime. Nothing settled.
Then...double OT. Michael Ryder scores 2:32 in.
The shirt WILL be worn every game. And it will not be washed until it's over. Don;t worry I'm not wearing it in public, I'm just a hockey fan, not a complete slob.
Tell you something, that damn kid of a goalie Ward the canes put in and the Canadiens chased Gerber, he stood up pretty tough. Just not tough enough.
So much for all the work the chiropractor did today on my back to loosen it up. It's all knots again.
    GO HABS GO!

    Canadian girls kick a..

Candadian girls kick ass. (MSN wouldn't let me use that as a title, but I still got it in)

I was thinking the other day how Canada's women athletes at the Olympics were doing extremely well with many more medals than the men. Then it got better. Canadian women have more medals than the women from any other country. Go to thestar.com to see the strory. Of our 19 medals, women earned 14 of them, led by speed skater Cindy Klassen who has 4 medals including a gold in her signature race the 1500m. She has as many medals as the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Great Britain put together. Her total is the most ever by any Canadian at a single games, and she can go for a fifth on Saturday. No choking like Jeremy Wotherspoon.

So screw the men's hockey "team". It wasn't a team, it was a collection of individuals, and the wrong individuals to boot. The Russians brought Ovechkin and guess what? He scored the winning goal against Canada but we left Sydney Crosby at home. And Jason Spezza. Spezza! Whose offensive talent exploded this season. The NHL's third leading scorer this season - Eric Staal - didn't play. Gretzky what were you thinking? You put Bertuzzi on the team simply because people said he shouldn't be there. What did Bertuzzi do? Did he score? No. He took a penalty which led to Ovechkin's winning goal against Canada. Bravo Todd. Thanks.

Now don't give me that "Oh we put so much pressure on men's hocky, we should support them no matter what" crap. They got shut out - SHUT OUT - 3 times! They played liked a bunch of losers and got what they deserved. They could only score in 11 of the last 12 periods they played. Pathetic. When Chris Pronger, a defensemen, was asked why they had trouble scoring he responded with "I'm on the back end, ask a forward that." Pretty well illustrates the theory that this was not a team. The excuse of lack of preparation time doesn't work, considering the other "power house" teams are in the same situation.

The Olympics are supposed to be for amateur atheletes. The only reason they brought pros in for hockey was because the Soviet block countries basically had pros playing on their national teams. Russian Red Army team - remember them? The Russian and Czech "amateurs" are now in the NHL. Let's go back to having the guys who toil in obscurity in Calgary on the National team year round represent us at the Olympics. All other countries are now in the same situation. There would still be the World Cup (used to be the Canada Cup but that wouldn't fly for yankee TV) for the pros to play in. The quality of team play across the board at the Olympics would increase.

    So screw the men's team.

Give me the Cindy Klassens and Chandra Crawfords (surprise gold in cross-sountry skiing), they know how to win.

    Damn Argos

Last night's football game was pretty good - until the last 30 seconds when the Argos competed their comeback.  Now I can appreciate a good comeback but it was the Argos.  Any game the Argos lose is a good one, and any one they win is a bad one.
I have to say that I enjoyed watching  Saskatchewan's front line work and make huge, and I mean some HUGE holes for Corey Holmes to run through.  For someone 5'7" Holmes has some punch in his running.
And even though he wears double blue, you have to give it to Damon Allen.  42 years old and still going.  I do think however that retiring after last year would have been the way to go.  I hope he doesn't try to keep playing until he is ineffective, has to be replaced by Pinball or worse - injured.  The Argos have a pretty good guy on the sidelines with Michael Bishop.  I remember watching Bishop being virtually unstoppable when scrambling when he was with Kansas State.  I think he would do well with the larger CFL field, so long as his arm is accurate.  Bishop almost got the Heisman in 98, finishing second after Ricky Williams.  The Argos also own the CFL rights to Eric Couch - Heisman winner in 2001.  Of course the Heisman doesn't necessarily mean success after college.  Hmmm, maybe the Argos could sign Couch and then trade him for, I dunno, maybe a running back who can actually hold on to the BALL!!
Now on to the 'Riders.  What is it the 'Riders need, other that to stop leaving points on the field?  How about a place kicker who can put the ball through the uprights?  Two field goals missed from under 40 yards - 6 points when they lost by 1.  Ouch.  And don't forget the play-off game last year with BC.
Gawd - I loves me my football!

    Crosby going to Switzerland?

Yes, in true Canadian fashion I am going to talk hockey with the summer solstice not even a month gone.

The Toronto Star today reported that a Swiss team has offered Crosby a $10 mil offer over three years. Now, this amount seems a little off due to the fact the $500K is the highest salary in that league. Apparently Sidney (or most likely his agent) isn't too keen on the idea of having his wage capped at $850K a year for the first three years. Yeah, kinda a rough thing to do to a 17 year old isn't it?

I watched Crosby play at the world juniors and he had a few nifty goals, but he was not a dominant force on the ice. Many of his goals came from being at the right place at the right time when his teammates did some hard work. Granted right place right time is a talent on the ice, but if you aren't dominant among the highest caliber 18 year olds, how do you expect to earn mega millions in the NHL? And the Quebec major junior is NOT the NHL. Crosby has not proved himself in the NHL, not against the bigger, stronger faster and more experienced players. He has not faced down NHL defencemen or tried against goaltenders Brodeur.

I am reminded of a story about a Canadian playing in the NFL. He came out of the NCAA thinking he was the best thing to hit the grid iron since they invented the game; he was on the cover of SI before even playing a game. First game, first play he faced Tony Saragusa. Saragusa blew by him without even breaking a sweat. He knew he was in trouble.

    Lindros anyone?

Oh, and Alexander Ovechkin may bolt from the Capitals to play for Moscow Dynamo for more money than the NHL rookie salary. Hmmm - is that not the same Ovechkin that we knocked out of the Juniors? Good clean checks and he had to leave the game. If you can't handle a bunch of teenagers, how do you expect to face the big boys?

Crosby may be the next great thing, but that has yet to be proven.

    Foot - BALL!!

Yes folks it's that time. FootBALL has started again. And that is how it is said - Foot - BAWLLLL!

Yes, I love football, even the CFL. So many trash the CFL - "bunch of guys who can't make the NFL". Hey, the field is 10 yards longer, 10 yards wider and you only have 3 downs to make 10 yards. And the goal posts are in play.

Oh yes, 8 months of football has begun.

The Argos lost to BC. Good. And Saskatchewan beat up on Winnepeg. Again good.

In a few short months, NCAA football will begin (much better than the NFL) and I will be able to watch my Irish play again. Oh that fight song. And the GOOOOO IRISH at kick off. Yes small things amuse me.

There is something about an offensive line tearing open a hole in the defense so the tail back can rip off a 25 yard run; or the quarterback taking a 5 step drop and letting the ball fly, placing it perfectly in the outstretched hands of the wide out 40 yards down the field. Or the linebacker breaking through the line on a blitz.

Yes I love football. Without any shame.
